Crocheted Dishcloth

Friday I finished crocheting an entire skein of yellow yarn into granny squares, and made even more on Saturday. So I knew I wanted to crochet something that whipped up quick for the gratifying feeling of actually finishing something-the feeling that won’t come for many months with this afghan project. [There isn’t anything gratifying about having piles of granny squares taking up space in my living room, even if the colors ARE pretty…]

So I made a dishcloth! I used Lily Sugar’n Cream Twists in Barnboard. Surprisingly it was the first 100% cotton yarn I think I’ve ever used. [Ok, sidenote: I should totally order yarn online, there are sooo many more colors available on yarn companies’ websites than in stores. I may have just set myself on a dangerous path of contributing to my yarn addiction though…] [Ok, side-sidenote: That Lily Sugar’n Cream company has scented yarns! Whhaaaa??]

Anyway, back to dishcloths. I don’t know how practical they are for us to use since we don’t own a washer/dryer and therefore only do laundry about once a month [sorry if that’s gross/TMI. The key is to just own a lot of underwear. 😉 ] This is just a super simple square square-ish shape worked in double crochet. It only took about 20 minutes or less, and was very gratifying. So I’m not sure I really care how practical it is. 🙂

Cross stitch kitchen items

There are quite a few cross stitches around my grandparents’ house, made by my Aunt Ann. My favorites are these ones: an oven mitt and potholder.

I actually just picked up a blank potholder for crosstitching just like this last week at S.C.R.A.P. and can’t wait to make it and put it to use.

Crocheted kitchen towels

I love these crocheted dish towel toppers.

My grandma didn’t remember who made them.

But I think I’ve found my next crochet project! They seem fairly easy. 🙂

Kitchen wall update

Just a couple updates to my kitchen wall: a lovely apple pie chalkware piece and a 70s looking needlepoint I finished weeks ago. [Which so doesn’t fit in with my kitchen theme but I have no where else to put it. Looks more like it belongs in a man cave.]

Oh yeah, when I found that chalkware piece, I also found two of the cute little roosters [like the ones I found on Etsy earlier] on the same day, but they were like $7 each. What a ripoff!

Kitchen embroidery

Not much crafting going on ’round these parts (well some embroidery has been happening, but it’s Christmas themed so not quite ready to show and tell yet) but at least I have gotten started on hanging up some of my kitchen-themed pieces! I’m just happy because the kitchen was the most dreary, least colorful room of my house, and yet also the room I probably spend the most time in. Now that simply won’t do!

Those silly sushi paintings are from years ago, and somehow have made it with me to a couple other houses. I painted them when friends would come over to my house for “Craft Wednesdays.” I think that weekly date needs to be reinstated with new Portland friends. 🙂
